Steve is a burned
out refugee from 20 plus years in corporate America. His goal is to have
the most complex issue he faces on any given day be a guest request for
more berries on their Belgian waffles. Steve long held the dream of innkeeping,
though he was aiming for the Blue Ridge Mountains. As his aim was not
so good, he missed by a bit, and found himself on Hatteras Island, the
only place he has ever really felt at home.
Steve is a single father who lives in the Innkeeper's house with his teenage children Peter and Abby, dogs, cats, friends who come in unannounced and welcome at all hours, and, with delightful frequency, his two adult children Ian and Brittany and his youngest son Ben. He is pleased to share the Inn grounds with two Great White Egrets, a Great Blue Heron, a pair of ospreys, the occasional otter, and the overall abundance of living things that make Hatteras Island and the Cape Hatteras National Seashore so grand. His interests and passions include an eclectic taste in music and film, live music, long motorcycle rides to nowhere in particular, bicycling, random readings in science, history, and literature, travel, and keeping his brain cells confused with an onslaught of new experiences.
Steve is joined year round by the seven members of his full time staff and seasonally
by six to ten part time staff. The management who keep the Inn running are:
Paul was born in Nowy Sacz, Poland, and educated through his Masters degree in Accounting at the University of Krakow. On his first visit to Hatteras Island in 2002, he discovered that he'd been born in wrong country. A native Pole who hated the cold, he knew he'd always been an American in his heart. He quickly fell in love with Hatteras Island, which he calls "his paradise".
Paul views himself as a citizen of the world. His passions are extreme sports, anything that goes fast on land, sea or air (especially a barely controlled downhill bike ride), a wide ranging and eclectic taste in music, new experiences, and travel to exotic destinations.
