The Inn on Pamlico Sound is located on Hatteras Island in the town of Buxton.
The island has much to offer the vacationer. Just a few minutes drive is the
Cape Hatteras lighthouse, the tallest brick lighthouse in the United States.
Cape Point, where the Labrador Current meets the Gulf Stream is a stone's
throw from the lighthouse. You'll want to make a stop at Canadian Hole, famous
for its winds, and watch the windsurfers and kiteboarders sail across the
water. If fishing is your passion, you will find opportunity in abundance,
from half and full day charters in the ocean or the sound, to casting in the
surf, or from one of the piers.
The charming fishing hamlet of Hatteras Village welcomes you. Be sure to go down to the docks around 4:00 in the afternoon to see the charter boats come in with the catch of the day. You might also take the short ferry ride from the south end of Hatteras Island to Ocracoke Island, home of Blackbeard the Pirate. Plan to visit the beaches of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Search for shells along our 70 miles of beautiful shoreline and watch the dolphins frolick in the surf. Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge on the northern end of the island offers an array of wildlife to spot. Don't feel the need to be busy, though. Just relaxing at the inn is "island time" well spent.
